Is Stuttgart Safe for Solo Female Travelers?

Stuttgart is considered generally safe for solo female travelers. While it experiences the common safety issues of any large urban city, like occasional pickpocketing in crowded spaces like public transportation or tourist spots, violent crime is relatively low, and the city overall has a safe environment to walk around during both day and night. Just like in any other city, you should follow common safety precautions: avoid less crowded areas late at night, secure your valuables, and maintain awareness of your surroundings.

How safe is Stuttgart?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Stuttgart, is generally a very safe city to visit, even for solo female travelers. While it's always vital to use your intuition and stay aware of your surroundings, the city is well-lit at night, and the locals are usually helpful and respectful. However, like in any city worldwide, some areas might be best to avoid after dark. Using common sense and staying in populated zones like the city center should make your night walks reasonably secure. It's always recommended to research and plan your routes beforehand for an even safer experience.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Stuttgart's public transportation is generally quite safe for solo female travelers. There's extensive coverage by trams, buses, and trains, which often run on time and are well-maintained. Late night services are not so frequent but are available. Lots of locals and other travelers utilize it regularly. It's advisable to stay alert especially at night, as pickpocketing and petty theft can occur, although it's quite rare. Good lighting and presence of CCTV cameras in many stations and vehicles help in enhancing security.
Street harassment:

Street harassment:Low

Stuttgart is generally safe to navigate, even for solo female travelers. The incidents of street harassment are comparatively low. Like any city, caution should still be exercised during night hours or in less populated areas. Locals are mostly respectful and instances of discomforting attention or remarks are very rare. It's always essential to be alert, mindful of your surroundings, and respect local customs and laws.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Low

Stuttgart is generally a safe city, but like any other urban area, it does experience some petty crime such as pickpocketing or theft, especially in crowded places or public transport. It is advisable, as always, to be vigilant with personal belongings and to avoid displaying valuable items openly.
Tap water:

Tap water:Very safe

In Stuttgart, the tap water undergoes thorough and regular testing to ensure it meets high safety standards. It's known to be of exceptional quality and it's completely safe to drink. You can freely use it for drinking, cooking or any other necessity. Bottled water is not a must here unless you have a specific reason of preference.

Solo travel experience

Stayed near the train station and felt safe walking around in the night (10pm or so). Main shopping street is lively even in the evening. Nice Central Park to sit and soak in the view. Try the local dishes like dumplings in soup and roast with potato dumplings.

Stuttgart is safe. It can feel scary when walking around the main street (Königstraße) at night, we tend to avoid doing that alone because there are often drunk people. But if you are in the city center, not so close to the main station, walking alone at night is usually safe. There are few cases of sexual assault or even rape, but the chances are very low. During the day, there’s always people around, so it’s not scary at all. All in all, Stuttgart is safe, and you feel safe when you walk around at night in most parts of the city. Most neighborhoods are very calm.

Stuttgart is a great city, but since COVID19 there is an agressive vibe in the air especially at night. I often get cat called ( this also depands on the district you are living in) and if I am out partying there will be at least one inappropiate guy. During the day there is nothing to worry about. I would still try to avoid the main station (Hauptbahnhof) and Bad Cannstatt station as there are a lot of junkies and homeless people around.
